Newspaper Work

Humber Et Cetera:
For the Humber Et Cetera, I was the In Focus Editor.  I designed all of the pages as well as managed a group of second year students and helped them get their stories and meet deadlines.  However, In my second year, I also wrote stories for this same section.  The In Focus section allowed me to focus on many areas including Entertainment, News, Sports and Local Events.  We focused on a certain topic every week which always gave us a challenge, whether it was making the stories or getting them to deadline. You can see my section below.

The Daily Planet:

The Daily Planet is an online news source that was started at Humber College this year.  I wrote numerous articles and was an editor for the Entertainment section, working on at least 3 to 4 stories each week.  The course is still getting some things worked out so it is very hard to find my articles, but a quick tour of the site will give you an idea of what was expected of me in this course.

Etobicoke Guardian:
I have two articles published in the Etobicoke Guardian.  For the DJ story, a professional photographer met up with me to take a good shot.  They both made it into the paper that week. You can check them out online here:

Magazine Work

Sweat, 2009 Spring Edition:
This magazine focuses on the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association.  I was the managing editor for this magazine and helped with editing stories, laying out pages, creating ideas for artwork, managing students, keeping in contact with advertisers and the OCAA, and the completion of the magazine.  I wrote a three page feature spread on a promising young athlete, Mark Wong.  You can view my story and the pages I designed below.  If you would like to see the entire magazine, please don’t hesitate to email me at bobbie.tubbs@gmail.com

Convergence, 2009 Spring Edition:
Convergence magazine focuses on the media and the issues that surround it.  I became a fact checker and copy editor after my big involvement with Sweat. My story for this magazine was a piece on the switch from analog television to digital television and how it will effect Canadians.

MagWorld, 2008 Edition:

This magazine recently won an Apple Award in New York City for best magazine.  The Columbia Scholastic Press Association awarded a Silver Crown Award to Humber on March 17, 2009.  For this magazine I was photo editor and helped all of the writers with ideas for their photos, as well as deciding which photos would make it into the magazine.  If you would like to see a copy of the magazine in person, contact me – bobbie.tubbs@gmail.com

MTV Canada:
While working at MTV Canada I got a chance to work on some segments for the Live show as well as pitch stories for MTV News. I was always doing odd-jobs around the office and transcribed many interviews as well.

At Atticus Canada I helped put on one of the biggest tours the company had ever done throughout Canada. I updated the website, made a magazine for the tour, promoted the tour, created prize-packs and had face-to-face interaction with many sponsors who helped fund the tour.

The Daily Planet:
These pieces were for the daily planet, an online news source that was introduced in my final year. We had to contribute two video pieces as well as some written work. You can see my videos below.

A friend of mine asked me if I could do a review of a concert I went to for her website as she couldn’t make it out. It’s just a quick little article about the bands and people who attended.
